Belmont

Belmont: At Home in the Hills

Belmont gets its name from the French words for “beautiful mountain.” Many homes, and locally famous Water Dog Lake Park, are situated on picturesque hills providing stunning views of San Francisco Bay.

Many fine homes built at the turn of the nineteenth century still stand, including Ralston Hall, built by Bank of California founder William Ralston and currently part of Notre Dame de Namur University, a Catholic, co-educational school that was the first college in California authorized to grant a bachelor’s degree to women.

Although Belmont is primarily residential and retail property, it is also home to the headquarters of Oracle Corporation. In addition to having its own CalTrain station, close proximity to Highways 101, 280, and 92 makes the city a prime destination for Bay Area professionals.

Los Altos Hills

Los Altos Hills, CA

Los Altos Hills: Bucolic Beauty

Los Altos Hills incorporated in 1956 to preserve “the rural atmosphere of the foothills,” and the town’s tough zoning regulations have helped it maintain a low-density, small-town environment. Parcels must be at least one acre in size, with just one primary residence per parcel.

Los Altos Hills is one of Silicon Valley’s most affluent communities, with a median household income of $206,000, according to United States Census Bureau data. In 2014, Forbes ranked Los Altos Hills as No. 45 on its list of America’s Most Expensive ZIP Codes, with a median home price of $2,896,103.

The town is known for its bucolic feel and boasts an 85-mile system of pathways and trails for strollers, joggers, bicyclists, and equestrians. Los Altos Hills operates the Westwind Community Barn, a historic property for stabling horses and equestrian training. The annual Los Altos Hills Hoedown takes place at the barn and exemplifies the town’s rural ambiance.
